Throughout my years in newspaper, this was my most in-depth piece. When it came to our attention that our superintendent of 10 years was going to be removed, I knew we had to cover it. Over two months, I attended every board meeting, watched very zoom, and worked every minute to cover the full story. This piece helped me improve in so many ways, but mostly becoming more confident. I was able to interview people I would've felt nervous to before, learned how to take photos, learned how to fact check, but mostly learned how to focus all of your attention to one in-depth issue.
In the spring of 2023, my favorite artists returned from their solo projects to the band, Boygenius. As I watched them release a new album, and grow more and more popular, I needed to review each project of theirs. On October 13, they released an EP with four extra songs, knowing I had to review. This is one of my favorite reviews I have written. I love the way that the EP is a reflection of not only the groups music as a whole, but their solo, making it a fun era to reflect on.
For this piece, I worked with my friend Anita. This idea took a while to brainstorm, but with the help from the staff and our school's principle, we were able to inform, and show a different side to school protests. It was interesting to learn what goes into planning a protest, and how to keep the school safe. One thing that I learned when writing this piece is to become confident when interviewing. It is important to just focus on the conversation, even if you are nervous.
The highly anticipated movie "Barbie" was released in the summer of 2023, I knew I had to review it. I had a lot of opinions on the movie, but also how it changed the conversation around feminism. This piece forced me to push beyond just the review, but focus on the culture around the movie. How it shaped the summer, and how it created social media trends.

I have had the idea about this article for a while and after looking at my list of ideas on my notes app, I decided to actually write about it. While writing I really enjoyed thinking about what I was writing. I also enjoyed just putting my ideas onto paper since it's a less talked about subject.
Right when this song was released I knew that I wanted to write a review on it. I was so excited to write a review about music that I love. This piece came really easy to me. I was just writing about something that I enjoy. Throught my time in Newspaper I have learned that your favorite pieces are always something that you really care about.
This was the first movie review that I wrote. When starting this piece I was not sure what to add. This article really helped me learn what transition words to use when writing a review. I enjoyed writing about the cast of this movie and that helped me learn I didn't just have to write about the story.
My personal narrative was fun to write because I got to look back on what influenced me to start newspaper. I liked reflecting on what inspired me to write. This piece came quickly to me when writing.
I remeber writing this peice at the very beginning of the year. Months later I saw it on the posting schedule, I went back and read it and I was surprised. After reading the lead, I wanted to learn more about the club. Even though I wrote it, I still wanted to learn more and read more. I hope to see what they accomplished at the end of the year.

All Too Well: The Short Film left me in tears
I first started this piece at MIPA's summer camp, where I attended a press conference and wrote a brief about Darien Harris and what Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) is. In October, I was told we would be doing a story about NIL so took the brief and started to make it into a localized piece about NIL and high school football players. I worked on this piece with my classmate Zach Phelps. Together we struggled to get interviews, but once we wrote many drafts, we were able to get the story the way that we wanted. - Fall 2022
This piece is a news piece that I wrote on a fast deadline. I wrote the piece and made the graphic in an hour and got it posted to the website and instagram in an hour with help. This piece helped me get exposed to writing breaking news pieces and working on a fast deadline. - Winter 2023
This is one of my favorite pieces that I have written. For this piece, I worked with my two classmates, Maya Fu and Samantha Goldstein. We faced a lot of challenges while trying to write. The biggest challenge we faced was making sure everything flowed correctly. To add, with winter break and shutdowns due to COVID and snow days we had to work on zoom for part of the writing process. Now, I am really proud of how it turned out. Spring 2022
For this piece, I was really excited to start writing. I felt very passionate on this issue, and wanted to share my opinion. Since I wrote about my problems getting Taylor Swift tickets, I started writing the piece the day after I got the tickets. With the piece, I had to make sure that I kept updating the piece while keeping my opinion present. I enjoyed working on this piece, and I think I grew while working on it. - Fall 2022
The idea for this piece came from a class conversation about Christmas, and turned into a Pro Con piece. While writing my piece, I had a lot of fun writing something about something simple, but is different for everyone. I found myself excited to write, and come up with ideas surrounding the Pro Con pieces. - Winter 2022
This piece is a review of Taylor Swift's album Midnights. I had a lot of fun writing this piece with my classmate Anita. I enjoyed writing a group review because I liked writing about what i'm passionate about with someone who has the same interests. After writing this review, I realized that I am excited to do more group reviews in the future. - Fall 2022
This piece was one of my favorites to write so far. I have always known that I wanted to write about this topic but never had a chance. With being a teenage fan I wanted to express why it's important to not judge people for the things they like. The article was easy to write because I was passionate about the topic. Now, I am very proud of how the article turned out and the hard work I put into it. -Fall 2021

When writing this piece I was able to interview one of my best friends. I really learned how to take the transcript from the recording and edit it to make sure it made sense and keep it in her words. This improved my editing abilities and helped me use my resources. -Fall 2021

What it is like being a Huron High School athlete and a different school's student
This article was something that I had never written before. I had to interview two people and write a longer article. One difficulty I had when writing this piece was time management. I had to fit in two interviews that worked for their times and mine. Overall, this is mot one of my favorite pieces but it taught me a lot about managing time. -Fall 2021
